Today we celebrate a very special person: Del Flemming, co-owner and founder of Billabong Sanctuary.

With her husband Bob, Del built Billabong Sanctuary, literally from the ground up, transforming a bare paddock into the award-winning wildlife park you see today.

When the park first opened in 1985, Del was the sole front-of-house person, running both the Shop and Blinky Bill’s Café. Over the years she has always been available to pitch in when the park is busy or when times are hard. She has raked miles of pathways, cleaned countless enclosures, and worked as hard as anyone on the team, clearing up after the recent devastation of Cyclone Kirrily.

These days Del mostly enjoys well-earned retirement behind the scenes, but is still very much involved in decision making, and encouraging and supporting the work of the whole team.
