MAGIC MOMENTS: Nola and her mum, visitors from the Netherlands, enjoy a bit of quiet time with Waru.
Waru is one of our beautiful red-tailed black-cockatoos, born right here in the park. At nearly 3 years of age, the young bird hasn’t yet revealed whether it is a boy or a girl!
Did You Know? Juvenile red-tailed blacks have the same coloration as females, and don’t develop adult feathers until at least 4 years of age. At that time the male will start to develop that overall glossy black colour, with the tell-tale bands of red in the tail.
We can’t wait to find out what Waru will turn out to be! Watch this space.
