Meet Yala, a southern hairy-nosed wombat

Although wombats are generally nocturnal, Yala often ventures out during these coolish mornings, and trundles around his enclosure during Wombat Experience. Isn’t he adorable!

They live in the south-eastern parts of Australia, and can’t tolerate air temperatures above 25° C. In the wild they shelter in deep burrows to escape the heat of the day
